About Double Elvis

Double Elvis is a 1963 artwork created by the famous American artist, Andy Warhol. The piece falls in the pop art category with its depiction of celebrity culture. Warhol was known for his fascination with popular icons like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, whom he often used as artistic subject matter. Double Elvis portrays the legendary musician, Elvis Presley, as a gunslinger from the Hollywood film Flaming Star.

Warhol used silkscreen ink on synthetic polymer paint on canvas to create Double Elvis. The artwork’s background is painted silver, while the image of Elvis is in black ink. The addition of silver paint to the background was uncommon at that time and paid homage to Hollywood’s glitzy silver-screen era.

It’s important to note that Double Elvis originally belonged to a large continuous canvas of many pictures of Elvish s through which it was later cut and stretched into several separate paintings, including Triple Elvis. These pieces remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide today.
