About The Art of Painting

The Art Of Painting, by Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, dates back to the period from 1666 to 1673. This beautiful scene of a young music teacher and her student is a prime example of Baroque painting. The goals and objectives of this piece are to indicate how an artist, through his awareness of history and his ability to paint elevated subjects, brings fame to his native city and country. As such, this picture is widely regarded as one of the greatest paintings ever created. In addition, Clio – the muse of history – has been identified as the woman sitting at a virginal on the right side of the artpiece.

This captivating painting is critical in understanding how artists during that time used their talent and skill to innovate within their craft, leading to new standards and narrative techniques which remain influential today. Similarly, another masterpiece from this period is The Waterseller Of Seville by Diego Velazquez from 1623. This painting depicts a figure in front of a beautifully detailed backdrop with immense skill and finesse. Its breathtaking details as well as its masterful composition provide spectators with insight into historical life in 17th century Spain; providing knowledge which we would not have been able to access had it not been for these invaluable works by two great painters alike.
