About Panel

Odilon Redon was a French artist known for his unique artistic style that evolved significantly throughout his career. He worked as a symbolist painter, printmaker, draughtsman, and pastellist. In the beginning of his career, Redon created dark and surreal prints and drawings while he transitioned to creating colorful pastel works in the latter half.

Redon’s artworks were recognized after being mentioned in Joris-Karl Huysmans’ 1884 novel “À rebours.” He believed that art could transcend everyday experiences and open doors to a marvelous world of the mind. In his creative process, he utilized etching and lithography techniques to publish drawings known as “Noirs.”

The “Decorative panel” is one remarkable piece of artwork created by Redon around 1902. The painting was done using oil on canvas in square format dimensions of 74 x 74 cm. The entire surface area comprises various patterns overlaid with each other; however, the composition creates a harmonious sense enlightening the delicate beauty that he wants to portray through this painting.

Overall, Odilon Redon was a brilliant artist who explored different styles during his long career in art creation. His works are displayed in museums worldwide as testaments to his incredible talent reflecting not only aesthetic beauty but also deep philosophical understanding merged into form and technique.
