About Self-portrait

The term “Self-Portrait” always brings to mind a work of art created by the great Pablo Picasso. This is certainly the case with this Self-Portrait, painted in 1896 – when Pablo Picasso was only 15 years old. The artwork shows Picasso in a classic academic pose, with his hands resting on top of a desk and his face slightly out of focus. What’s striking about this piece is its simplicity. Despite being completed more than a century ago, it is timeless in its depiction of youth and vitality.

It’s difficult to believe that such an accomplished work was produced by someone so young. At the time this Self-Portrait was made, Picasso had already developed a love for painting – something that would later become his life’s passion. His skill as an artist and use of color are evident even in this very early piece.

This Self-Portrait by Pablo Picasso serves as a remarkable reminder that greatness can be achieved at any age, no matter the circumstances or challenges faced. In 1963 – 67 years after he completed his first self-portrait – Picasso went on to create another masterpiece titled Rape Of The Sabines. It further proves that talent and determination endure over time and can truly shape an individual’s life and future success.
